All the on-set fashion from Sex and the City spin-off, And Just Like That

30/10/2021

Alongside its boundary-pushing narratives surrounding female sexuality in the 1990s, exploration of relationships in every form, and feminist learnings (mainly from Miranda, not Charlotte), fashion was a huge part of Sex and the City’s legacy.

Whether you were left wanting From Carrie Bradshaw’s Manolo Blahniks or Samantha Jones’ Hermes Birkin bag, the show set the tone for glamorous ’90s fashion under the expert guidance of costume designer Patricia Field, and served as style inspiration for millions of viewers around the world.

And, judging by the first-look pictures of the confirmed spin-off And Just Like That, which will chronicle Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis) two decades later, fashion and style will be central themes of this comeback show, too.

As with the original series, much of the new show is being filmed on the streets of Manhattan and outside some of the city’s landmark buildings – including the Lyceum Theatre and Webster Hall – rather than on a closed set, meaning that we’ve been able to get a good glimpse at some of the fashion on offer before we’ve even seen a trailer.

Here are all the looks we’ve spotted so far.

Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted on set in a fitted monochrome dress and hot pink heels.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore one of Carrie’s most iconic wardrobe pieces – her signature tutu – had been given an update for the new series, in the form of a longer version. She wore ankle-length tulle skirt which she paired with Chanel two-toned boots – shoes she wore in multiple scenes during season six of Sex and the City.

The look was paired with a dramatic feathered hat, which may be a reference to the bird that Carrie wore on her head when she arrived to marry Big in the first movie.

Sarah Jessica Parker and the ensemble cast were seen filming scenes outside the Manhattan school of Music, with SJP as Carrie wearing emerald green culottes and a cream blazer. She finished her look with a blue corsage – a signature Carrie piece – as well as the character’s iconic blue Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps.

It looks as though Carrie is championing rewearing her favourite fashion finds in the new spin-off. Eagle-eyed SATC fans will recognise the studded Streets Ahead belt Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted on set wearing (with a hot pink Carolina Herrera dress), as Carrie previously wore it in the 2008 Sex and the City film. Of course, no Carrie outfit is complete without a pair of Manolo Blahniks.

Never missing a trick with style, Carrie Bradshaw would naturally know the best vintage shops to source statement pieces from, such as this cream Claude Montana linen jumpsuit from Replika Vintage, NYC.
Over the jumpsuit, Parker wore a silk floral blazer by Dries Van Noten.

Kristin Davis

Seen filming a walking-a-dog segment on the streets of New York City, Davis did so carrying the Rianna and Nina treasure box bag, which was handcrafted in Milan and costs €5,210 (£4,437) to buy.
According to must-follow Instagram page, @everyoutfitonsatc Charlotte’s white blouse is Stella McCartney and polka dot blue asymmetric skirt is Balenciaga – which is still available to buy:

Another Charlotte York outfit spotted on set is this fuchsia pink puff sleeved shirt, paired with a high-waist white Alexander McQueen cotton skirt (which, surprisingly, is not yet sold out online). She is carrying a Louis Vuitton bag and later changed into some Stuart Weitzman pink pumps for shooting, according @justlikethatcloset.

Cynthia Nixon

Nixon as Miranda Hobbes was spotted on set in a colourful Dries Van Noten dress (now reduced online) accessorised with a tote bag emblazoned with a picture of Bernie Sanders and the text ‘Justice For All’. Very fitting for the woman who, in real life, ran for New York City mayor.

Nicole Ari Parker

Also spotted on set this week was new character, Nicole Ari Parker – best known for her roles in Chicago PD and Empire – though it’s not known who her new character is.
Parker was seen wearing a multi-coloured Pleats Please Issey Miayke jumpsuit (now reduced at Selfridges) paired with Giuseppe Zanotti heels.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Just like in the opening credits of Sex And The City, Carrie was seen wearing baby pink again, this time in the form of a pink coat over a white pleated midi dress and mule heels.
Staying true to her journalistic routes, the black tote bag Carrie is carrying has the acronym WNYC embroidered on it, which is a nonprofit New York public radio station.

And Just Like That…

For their first day of filming the three leading ladies wore these complementary looks; Cynthia Nixon in a checked Altuzarra shirt and Vince trousers, Sarah Jessica Parker in a Norma Kamali skirt and Celine platforms, and Kristin Davis in a Carolina Herrera top and Dior heels.
