Kanye West-Directed Pornhub Awards

07/09/2018

So it turns out those seemingly outlandish rumors weren’t some kind of 2018 fever dream, after all.

After Kanye West’s team confirmed the rapper’s participation to Vanity Fair, West co-creative directed the first-ever Pornhub Awards, which aired last night. The show took place at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, with West and his DONDA creative content company teaming up with Willo Perron on creative duties. Porn star Asa Akira hosted the ceremony, which was live-streamed on the adult entertainment site and West’s wegotlove.com.

West and Perron’s concept set the event in the year 6918 because why the hell not? As well as adding his touch the award show’s aesthetics, ’Ye took to the stage with Lil Pump to perform new collab “I Love It.” The track is also getting a music video directed by Spike Jonze. (So that’s why Kanye was tweeting photos of Jonze before appearing at Teyana Taylor’s San Francisco show.)

According to a Pornhub press release, all of the presenters’ wardrobes and makeup styling came from West’s YEEZY brand, while the trophies — a series of custom phallic statuettes — were also designed by the rapper.

“Kanye has designed a bespoke erotica-inspired award statue for each of tonight’s unique categories,” read Pornhub’s release. “In line with the futurist theme, the award statues represent imagined alien sex toys.”

In addition to the trophies, styling, and new song, West also had a hand in designing merchandise for the show. Winners of different categories got a specially designed YEEZY x Pornhub long-sleeve, which you can check out below.

The merch is now available at YEEZY SUPPLY.

This all came about after West recently told Jimmy Kimmel that he still looks at Pornhub after the chat show host had asked if his attitude toward women had changed since having daughters. Pornhub enjoyed the free publicity so much it gifted West a lifetime free premium membership.
