Yep, you read that headline right. Yep, we’re still screaming too. Destiny’s Child are currently in the process of planning a huge reunion tour for 2020.
15 years after they split to pursue solo careers, Beyoncé has reportedly been secretly squirrelling away and setting up a huge US and European tour to mark the 20th anniversary of the Michelle, Kelly and Bey trio being formed.
Michelle and Kelly are on board, and as the suggestion came from Queen B herself, you KNOW something is going to happen.
A music insider told The Sun: “Beyonce has been desperate to get the girls back together with her in the studio and she can’t think of a better time than 2020, when they will be marking two decades as one of the world’s biggest all-female groups.”
It’s the summer of #GirlPower that’s apparently spurred on our Bey. After seeing the Spice Girls’ reunion do so well, (despite some …ahem… hiccups) she’s looking to have a slice of the success pie.
The source added, “She saw the success of the Spice Girls tour and wants to replicate that — but far bigger and better.”
This isn’t the first time Destiny’s Child reunion rumours have circulated. Six years ago the group was meant to return to the big-time after a surprise performance at the Super Bowl during half time, but due to scheduling commitments the plans were scrapped, and we sobbed for approximately 47 days. So we’ve been burned before.
But after the success of the trio’s half time performance in Beyoncé’s Coachella set last year, talks about new music started to do the rounds and now a worldwide tour featuring old classics AND new music is apparently in the works.
It’s very exciting news, but – just spitballing – has anyone ever thought about a Spice / Destiny supergroup? Zig-a-Zig-a-licious? We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
