A Britney Spears Documentary Is Coming Next Month

22/01/2021

We still have a lot to learn about the pop icon who is Britney Spears. So much so that a new New York Times-produced documentary titled Framing Britney Spears is heading to FX next month.

Per E! News, the film will focus on Britney’s career highs and lows, as well as the aftermath of her very public 2007 breakdown, which led to the long-standing conservatorship helmed by her father that is still in place today.

Even though Britney is one of the music industry’s most successful recording artists—with 100 million albums sold—and a steady pop culture fixture since her “…Baby One More Time” debut in 1999, the singer reportedly hasn’t had complete control of her life and financial matters for years. Her father, Jamie Spears, was named co-conservator of her estate in 2008 along with lawyer Andrew Wallet. Though Wallet resigned from the position in 2018, Jamie has continued to control Britney’s life, finances, and personal decisions, sparking fan outrage and the launch of the Free Britney movement on social media.

Britney has since began legal action in an effort to remove her father from the helm of her conservatorship, but a Los Angeles judge recently declined her request and extended the conservatorship until at least September 2021.

During a rare interview on CNN back in December, Jamie revealed that he and his daughter have not spoken in months. “I love my daughter and I miss her very much. When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally,” Jamie said. “I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family.”

Framing Britney Spears premieres February 5 on FX and Hulu.
