2021 has definitely been the year that old trends returned just in time for us fashion lovers, so that we can experiment and bring out the best of the 2000s and the 90s. Y2K and 90s were everywhere, from your choice of outerwear, to your choice of jewellery, from your hairstyle to the makeup. We definitely saw many women applying lipgloss and having tendrils as a choice of hairstyle.
Another reference from the past was the choice of shoes. As much as we hated crocs, they were so trendy all summer and everyone was wearing them.
This season we’ll all travel back to the disco era, the wonderful 70s, because the platform shoes are back. Platform shoes were the trend of the 70s as they were the perfect choice for everyone who wanted to make a spectacular entrance on the dance floor.
Platform shoes are not new to us. This choice of footwear was also famous in the 90s. You can all remember Naomi Campbell walking at Vivienne Westwood F/W 1993 fashion show and fall on the runway because of those high platform shoes. Spice Girls were also big fans of the platform shoes. We are still figuring out how they managed to sing and dance in concerts, wearing them.
Just when we thought this trend was going to die down, Lady Gaga revived it again. Well, only Lady Gaga can go to the gym wearing long platform shoes.
Even though we are living in a situation where discos have basically become our enemies, that does not mean we shouldn’t wear platform boots for a drink.
