Celebrity Weddings of 2019

As 2019 comes to a close, it’s time to take stock of the year that was and remind ourselves of what a love-filled 12 months Hollywood had. There were a number of celebrity weddings in 2019; some were a surprise; some were private celebrity-filled nuptials and others were long, drawn out affairs the whole world was privy too, thanks to Instagram.

Jennifer Lawrence took a trip down the aisle, marrying Cooke Maroney in front of dozens of famous faces, including Emma Stone, Kris Jenner and Ashley Olsen. And Haliey Baldwin and Justin Bieber officially became The Biebers in September 2019, saying their ‘I dos’ in South Carolina. Other notable weddings included Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman; Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling; Marc Jacobs and Charly Defrancesco; Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston; Dimitri Rassam and Charlotte Casiraghi and British Vogue cover stars Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre Elba. And who could forget Joe Joans and Sophie Turner’s two weddings, including that Las Vegas elopement.

Below, Vogue looks back at the biggest celebrity weddings of 2019, a year overflowing with engagements, lavish ceremonies and A-list love.

Dimitri Rassam and Charlotte Casiraghi
Charlotte Casiraghi, granddaughter of the late Grace Kelly, married film producer Dimitri Rassam in a civil ceremony at the Prince’s Palace of Monaco on June 1 2019. Casiraghi chose a long-sleeved lace brocade Saint Laurent mini dress with three oversized bows affixed to the front for occasion.
A traditional Monegasque-style picnic, hosted in the terraced gardens of the Palace, followed the civil ceremony. Later, the wedding party decamped to the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel for a formal dinner. Casiraghi stepped out in a white strapless satin Chanel gown for the evening soirée, with her grandmother’s three-strand Cartier diamond necklace finishing off the ensemble.
In June 2019, the couple wed in a religious ceremony at the Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Pierredon, outside Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The bride chose a custom Giambattista Valli gown reminiscent of her mother, Caroline, Princess of Hanover’s own wedding dress.

Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston
Lady Gabriella Marina Alexandra Ophelia Windsor, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, married Thomas Kingston at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on May 18 2019. The couple became engaged in August 2017 while in Isle of Sark.
Lady Gabriella Windsor selected a custom Luisa Beccaria wedding dress with a subtle blush tint for the occasion. The gown itself was constructed using Valencienne écru lace layered with ribbons of flowers and buds, with the blush hue coming from the under layers of organza and tulle. Several members of the royal family attended the ceremony and celebrations including The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Harry, Princess Anne and Princess Beatrice.

Marc Jacobs and Charly Defrancesco
Marc Jacobs proposed to Charly Defrancesco in a Chipotle after a Prince flashmob (organised by the designer) invaded the restaurant in April 2018. The extra engagement set the mood for the fashion-filled New York Wedding, with the grooms tying the knot in April 2019 at Manhattan’s The Grill in front of dozens of famous faces.
Guests included Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful and contributing editors Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, as well as Gigi and Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Chloë Sevigny, Bette Midler, Amber Valletta, Emily Ratajkowski, Luka Sabbbat, Frank Ocean and Lil’ Kim. The grooms both wore Huntsman suits designed by Ralph Fitzgerald, Jacobs in black and Defrancesco in green velvet. Jacobs finished off his look with custom lemon-yellow Gucci boots, a single Calla Lily pinned to his lapel and a quilted black Chanel bag. Defrancesco opted for a bowtie and bespoke Christian Louboutin trainers for the reception.

After becoming engaged in 2017 and eloping in Las Vegas for their civil ceremony in May 2019, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas finalised their wedding plans in June 2019, with a private ceremony at the Château de Torreau in Sarrians, France.
Naturally, Prinyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were guests, as was Turner’s on-screen sister and best friend Maisie Williams, who was one of two Maids of Honour. Turner, a Louis Vuitton ambassador looked to the Maison and its creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, for her wedding gown, which featured a cut-out back design, fitted lace sleeves, and an embellished skirt.

Sabrina Dhowre Elba and Idris Elba
Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre wed in three-day extravaganza in Marrakech in April 2019, after initially meeting in 2017 and becoming engaged in February 2018. The couple, whose wedding featured in the July 2019 issue of British Vogue, chose the location as it was the perfect meeting point for their families: “My family is from east Africa and Idris’s is from west Africa, so we thought it would be fun to meet somewhere in between,” Dhowre told Vogue of the location.
The bride wore a custom off-the-shoulder Vera Wang gown and the groom a three-piece Ozwald Boateng suit for the main event.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin confirmed their engagement in July 2018 after singer popped the question earlier that same month in the Bahamas. Rumours of the wedding abounded after Hailey was spotted wearing her hard-to-miss oval-shaped engagement ring, which is estimated to be between six and 10 carats.
The couple first tied the knot on 13 September 2019 in New York in a civil ceremony but the world didn’t have to wait long for the religious ceremony, with the pair saying their second ‘I dos’ on 30 September 2019 in South Carolina.
Renting the Montage Palmetto Bluff, a sprawling 20,000-acre luxury waterfront resort located 15 miles north of Savannah, the couple invited their famous friends and family to celebrate – Kendall, Kris and Kylie Jenner, Joan Smalls, Camila Morrone and Jaden Smith were all present for The Notebook-inspired wedding.
The newly minted Mrs. Bieber wore several looks across the wedding weekend, including three on the wedding day itself. For her trip down the aisle, the bride wore custom Off-White by Virgil Abloh, changing into Ralph & Russo and Vera Wang for the reception and prior to all those magnificent white gowns, Hailey opted for a miniature bespoke Vivienne Westwood number for pre-wedding revelry.
The couple chose Tiffany & Co. wedding bands when making things official; Mrs. Bieber selected two diamond encrusted V-shaped bands from the jewellery house’s Soleste collection, to sit on either side of her engagement ring and Mr. Bieber chose a plain 18k wedding band from the Tiffany Classic collection. The wedding photos flooded Instagram while the wedding celebrations took place, ensuring none of us missed single special moment from the luxe wedding.

The couple reportedly first married in a quiet civil ceremony in May 2019, with the French nuptials following in June 2019. Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Cara Delevingne and Shailene Woodley were all in attendance at the Parisian wedding.

Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney
Until February 6, art gallerist Cooke Maroney was relatively unknown – and then he put a “giant rock” on Jennifer Lawrence’s finger. The internet went into overdrive, and he has been barely out of the paps’ sight since. Specifics about their relationship (they were first linked together in June after they were introduced by mutual friends) and the proposal (it allegedly happened at New York’s Raoul’s restaurant over a “cosy dinner”) are vague, as are details of the wedding which took place at the Belcourt of Newport mansion in Newport, Rhode Island in October 2019.
The Dior ambassador reportedly wore a custom confection from the French house, though specifics on the gown remain scarce. Present among the roughly 150 guests were Adele, Amy Schumer, Emma Stone, Ashley Olsen, Sienna Miller and Kris Jenner.
