Hollywood’s biggest night finally came to an end.
But it was not the usual award ceremony that we have watched all these years. It was small, more personal but still managed to give us all those mixed feelings.
Last night’s greatest achievement belonged to Chloe Zhao who took home two awards: Best Achievement in Directing and Best Picture. Chloe Zhao became the first woman in color to win this award and the second female director.
Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean to win the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Minari. Right after she received the award from Brad Pitt, she called him out in the most hilarious way.
“Mr. Brad Pitt, finally. Very nice to finally meet you,” she began her speech. “Where were you when we were filming in Tulsa?”
“As you know, I’m from Korea and actually my name is Yuh-Jung Youn,” she said. “Most European people call me Yuh-Young and some of them call me Yoo-Jung. But, tonight, you are all forgiven.”
Brad Pitt was an executive producer of the movie, so the comment of Yuh-Jung Youn makes sense.
But like any award ceremony there are always complaints when it comes to the winner and last night’s surprise was the winner in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role.
This category was announced the last, which was a different setting, because usually it is the category for Best Picture which comes last.
Everyone was expecting the late Chadwick Boseman to win the category for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but instead Anthony Hopkins took home this award for his role in The Father.
As always, the Oscars Red Carpet came to life in all its glory where Zendaya, Regina King, Margot Robbie, Carey Mulligan, Amanda Seyfried, H.E.R, etc., amazed us with all those beautiful gowns.
