Inside the Glamorous Hotels Where the Celebrities Stay During the Cannes Film Festival

With its the stunning coastline, high-end shopping, party scene, and restaurants, the idyllic resort town of Cannes, France, is worth a visit any time of year. But each May, celebrities show up in droves to attend the famous Cannes Film Festival—and in between promoting their films and partying on private yachts, the stars need places to rest their heads. So, of course, they book rooms at some of the most luxurious hotels in town. In honor of the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off on May 14, here are a few of their favorite spots.

It’s impossible not to see an A-lister here. The hotel hosts the opening and closing events for the festival, making it a top choice for stars to spend the night. But more than just being a central location for the festival, it also has an outdoor heated pool, spa, private beach, and casino. Oh, and there’s not one, but three gourmet dining options. No wonder Matthew McConaughey and Jane Fonda both have been spotted here.

Everyone from Grace Kelly to Antonio Banderas has visited this century-old hotel located on the town’s main drag, Boulevard de la Croisette. In addition to sweeping sea views, guests get classically decorated rooms, many with balconies overlooking the commotion below. Not to mention a private beach and an on-site restaurant serving up sustainable Provençal produce.

Guests at this five-star hotel can pretty much step out of the building and onto the beach. But stars don’t need to, because they also have access to a rooftop swimming pool with views of the ocean (minus the crowd). They can also try their hand at some card games in the casino and do a little last-minute shopping at the on-site shops. Plus, the modern property embraces the festival’s history by having film-themed rooms.

This historic property has been attracting stars since the 1920s, and it’s easy to see why. It has the largest private beach on Boulevard de la Croisette; the on-site restaurant, La Palme d’Or, has two Michelin stars; and many rooms have private terraces with views of the Mediterranean. Best yet: You can’t even get in the front door unless you’re on a list or staying at the hotel, so stars know they’ll be safe from prying eyes. Not surprisingly, Robert Pattinson and Scarlett Johansson have stayed here in the past.

Although farther from the main action, this stunning five-star property has been serving stars and royalty for over 140 years. Located at the southern tip of Cap d’Antibes and surrounded by 22 acres of gardens, the hotel affords celebrities like Heidi Klum the privacy they crave. There are elegant suites available as well as two three-bedroom villas for more seclusion. Stars even flock here just to enjoy a meal with views of the beautiful Côte d’Azur. During last year’s festival, Kendall Jenner was photographed lounging at the property’s iconic saltwater infinity pool, which is built right into the side of a rock overlooking the sea, and features ladders and trapezes for jumping into the ocean.
