The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could lose royal patronages

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to lose their royal patronages, as part of a review of the situation was was due to take place 12 months after the couple stepped down from the royal family last year.

The Queen has reportedly decided that Harry and Meghan should be stripped of various official positions, including her grandson’s much-loved role as Captain General of the Royal Marines.

The Sussexes will have to leave behind all of the roles they retained as a gift from the Queen, including Meghan’s role as patron of the National Theatre and Harry’s rugby patronages, according to The Times.

Buckingham Palace has always maintained that the couple couldn’t keep some aspects of their past life as senior members of the royal family.

“There was no choice. The reality of not being able to have their cake and eat it is finally dawning on him. I am sure it is really painful for him. He is very upset to be in this spot. But they have made some choices,” a source explained, according to The Times.

“They have lots of exciting things to work on, and that can be done with everyone’s best wishes. But you cannot confuse representing the institution and the head of state with the sort of commercial operations that they intend to run.”

An announcement is expected to be made at the end of next month before the review period closes.

Since deciding to step away from their royal life, Prince Harry and Meghan have moved to California with their son Archie and recently revealed they are expecting their second child together.
