Rihanna Has Accused Snapchat!!!

Snapchat recently approved and published an ad for a game called “Would You Rather?” that posed the question of whether users would prefer to “slap Rihanna” or “punch Chris Brown.” The ad is particularly tone-deaf in its callous reference to the 2009 incident when Brown violently assaulted Rihanna, his then-girlfriend. For this, Rihanna has accused Snapchat of “intentionally” shaming victims of domestic abuse.  Rihanna responded on Instagram (Snapchat’s rival social media platform) with a story that stated: “Now Snapchat, I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess. I’d love to call it ignorance but I know you ain’t that dumb!” The post continued, “You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV [domestic violence] victims and made a joke of it!!! … Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.”

Snapchat has responded to Rihanna’s Instagram story today, in a statement to The Verge: “This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”
