Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have welcomed their first child, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, are “delighted” at the news, as are the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
A name has not yet been announced, but Eugenie gave birth to a son on the morning of 9 February at The Portland Hospital. With Brooksbank by her side, their son arrived weighing 8lbs 1oz. Taking to Instagram, the couple shared a sweet photo of their newborn’s tiny hand and a stream of blue heart emojis.
The new addition to the royal family marks the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. According to the Palace, both mother and baby are doing well.
Back in September the couple made their pregnancy announcement by sharing a photo of a tiny pair of teddy bear baby shoes, along with a beaming picture of them together, writing: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021…” Her engagement ring, an unusual padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds, designed by Shaun Leane, is visible in the photo, too.
Eugenie married her long-time love Jack in a royal wedding at Windsor Castle in October 2018, wearing a Peter Pilotto gown with a deliberately low back that exposed the bride’s scar from scoliosis surgery. Her spectacular something borrowed was the Greville emerald Kokoshnik tiara, loaned to Eugenie by the Queen. Over two years later, and the couple has something even more precious to celebrate in 2021.
