Paris Fashion Week Spring Summer 2022 Collections

06/10/2021

As always, Paris is the last destination for all the fashion lovers, and we might say that the best is always saved for last. There is so much to be seen during Paris Fashion Week and you can immediately tell that there is a different vibe. Probably it is the city that makes you fall in love with everything.

For years now, Paris has been hosting some of the best shows, and this year was no exception at all. We can talk days, weeks or months about the glory of the fashion week in Paris, but we would like to highlight some important moments for the presentation of the Spring/Summer 2022 collections.

Olivier Rousteing celebrated 10 years as the Artistic Director of Balmain. That is why the Balmain show was so special and the designer wrote a deeply personal letter. The bandage dresses as part of his Spring/Summer 2022 collection came as an inspiration from an accident he had one year ago, where he suffered painful burns and it required hospital stay and months of physical therapy. The collection was presented on the runway in the most unique way and some of the looks were worn by Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Cindy Bruna, Karen Elson, Liu Wen, Mariacarla Boscono, Milla Jovovich etc.

Earlier this year the world lost a remarkable designer due to Covid-19, Alber Elbaz. That is why his team created a line for AZ Factory, that was created in 2019 by Alber himself, to fulfil the designer’s mission, and show his vision on the runway with bold colored looks and big jewellery.

Matthew Williams for Givenchy made quite the buzz during this fashion week. The designer collaborated with New York artist Josh Smith, interpreting the artist’s abstract paintings in his designs. What really caused some mixed feelings during the presentation of his collection for Givenchy were a few silver collars that mirrored the knots of a noose. Two years ago, Burberry was blasted for showing on the runway hoodies with noose around the neck.

Balenciaga introduced a new concept during PFW, which made us think that it is time for fashion brands to step away from the traditional runway and make something more innovative. As the guests sat comfortable in their seats, a screen showed an episode of the Simpsons with Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa, and many others wearing the brand’s signature looks. Demna Gvasalia and other Balenciaga employees were part of the show as cartoon versions of themselves. What a unique way!
