Offset Interrupts Cardi B’s Set at Rolling Loud Festival

17/12/2018

Cardi B was in the middle of performing at the Rolling Loud Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 15, when Offset appeared on stage, equipped with flowers and cake, attempting to get back together with the rapper.

The “I Like It” singer had announced her separation from her husband (and father to baby Kulture) on December 2, explaining via Instagram that “things haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

The moment at the Rolling Loud Festival was captured on video, and the clip shows a stunned Cardi as a wall of flowers is rolled onto the stage, displaying three words: “Take me back.” Moments later, Offset joins the rapper onstage, and it is immediately clear that Cardi is not happy with the gesture. Holding a microphone, Offset can be heard saying “I’m sorry,” and “I love you,” as Cardi shakes her head and says something to him quietly, looking uncomfortable. The incident ends with Offset exiting into the wings, and his “gifts” removed from the stage.

Fans who were at the concert soon took to social media to describe what went down. “[Cardi] kicked him out and 30 seconds after she came back with a big smile like a boss and killed this gig,” one person wrote. Another concert-goer said: “[Cardi] was so not feeling the gesture and had him and the set up removed!”

While Offset might have had good intentions, it’s important to note that dramatic gestures like these aren’t always appreciated, nor are they always seen as romantic. Sure, pop culture and movies might trick us into believing that grand, sweeping gestures or last-ditch attempts at getting back together are swoon-worthy, but the reality is that if those actions aren’t desired, there’s nothing cute about it. Moreover, a person’s decision to end a relationship should be respected — and not seen as a challenge. Of course, every relationship is different, and breakups often contain several shades of grey — but it’s important to respect your ex’s wishes all the same.

Plenty of fans on social media weren’t happy with Offset’s actions. “This is not acceptable or cute,” one fan tweeted. Another Twitter user reacted: “This video makes me uncomfortable af.”

That said, Cardi has made it clear that she doesn’t want her fans to be angry at Offset, and she especially doesn’t want people to attack him on social media. The rapper later took to Instagram to share an important message with her followers. “I’m not saying that I’m gonna get back together with [Offset], I just don’t like that bashing online thing,” Cardi said, later referencing Pete Davidson’s recent note expressing suicidal ideation after being bullied online. “I wouldn’t want my baby father to have that feeling because millions of people are bashing him each day, that’s a nasty feeling and I wouldn’t want that,” Cardi said, emphasizing that no other man will love Kulture the way Offset does.

In the comments, it’s evident that Cardi’s fans are ready to support her no matter what. “This is what maturity and pure love looks like,” one person wrote. Another said: “Cardi is 100% class. It really takes a mature, good-hearted person to get up here and defend someone who hurt you. Good for you, Cardi.” And one fan put it simply by saying: “Cardi has such a good heart.”
