Movies You Must Watch Before The Oscars

24/01/2020

This is the perfect time to enjoy a night at the cinema. Winter season is well known among the movie lovers for being the best months where the most anticipated movies are released, especially those that get nominated for an Academy Award.

Apart from this, in winter, due to the cold weather most people tend to stay home and spend their free time watching movies. Some organize a friends gathering with good wine, popcorns, beers, pizza and all kinds of other snacks that are perfect when watching a movie.

If you consider yourself a movie lover, you should absolutely check our list and watch these movies before the Oscars.

  1. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

We all know what a Quentin Tarantino typical scene is and in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood we certainly saw that. The movie includes an amazing cast like Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Margot Robbie etc. If you have not watched it yet, put it on your list.

  1. Joker

As soon as the movie was released, you could only read reviews like “What a movie”, “Absolutely shocking”, “Brilliant performance from Joaquin Phoenix”, “Movie of the year”, “Outstanding”. If even these phrases weren’t enough to convince you to watch it, we do not know what else might do the magic…

Joker tells the story of a troubled man who tries to succeed as a comedian. It is such an unusual story and we do not want to give spoilers.

  1. Little Women

We have all watched Little Women, featuring Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst etc., but emerging filmmaker Greta Gerwig will bring a new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s post-Civil War classic featuring Emma Watson, Laura Dern, Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet etc. Greta Gerwig amazed us with her directorial debut with Lady Bird, and now we can’t wait to see Little Women on her point of view.

  1. The Irishman

The Irishman brought together Al Pacino, Rober De Niro, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel for an amazing crime saga directed by the one and only Martin Scorsese. Netflix won the bidding for this movie, so we do not have to go to the cinema to watch it, since we can enjoy it from our couch or bed.

  1. Ford v. Ferrari

Movies based on true stories are always a great joy. That is why you should absolutely see this fantastic movie featuring Christian Bale and Matt Damon.

  1. Parasite

Parasite is the winner of the 2019 Palme D’or at Cannes Film Festival. The South Korean Black Comedy Thriller is directed by Bong Joon-ho and it has such an incredible and unimaginable story. The movie keeps you focused and under pressure all the time, as you do not know what might come up and how the events will turn.

  1. Us

Last year’s movie “Get Out” left the audience speechless and even this year director Jordan Peele has brought another psychological thriller starring Lupita Nyong’O, Elisabeth Moss and Winston Duke.

  1. 1917

After Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk in 2017, we haven’t had the opportunity to watch another remarkable war movie. The American Beauty and Skyfall director, Sam Mendes, brought an emotional First World War drama movie as if shot in a single take.

9. Marriage Story

Marriage Story tells the story of a couple that go through a difficult path in their life when they decide to get a divorce.

Many other movies worth noting:

  • A beautiful day in the Neighbourhood

  • The Two Popes
