Next year’s Met Gala will mark two prestigious occasions: the 150th anniversary of the museum and the very first time that Meryl Streep will attend the fashionable event.
The Oscar-winning actress – who has been turning heads on the red carpet since the 1970s – has surprisingly never attended the gala. Despite being one of the most beloved stars in Hollywood, she does tend to keep out of the limelight unless she has a movie to promote or an award to collect, so it does make sense that she has stayed away until now.
This year though, Streep will be chairing the gala, meaning we will definitely see her walking up those famous steps. She will be doing so alongside Nicolas Ghesquière of Louis Vuitton, Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Anna Wintour. Other notable stars to have chaired the gala include Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman.
The theme of this year’s spring exhibition and therefore the dress code of the gala is ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’, which will no doubt see some very varied choices on the red carpet. We cannot wait to see what Streep wears for her first Met Gala outing.
