All eyes were on Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, at the 2018 Fashion Awards last night where she made a surprise appearance on stage.
Wearing an elegant asymmetric Givenchy dress the expectant mother cradled her bump with perfectly manicured hands, her nails painted in – shock! – a dark polish. Given that traditional royal protocol forbids coloured nail polish, in favour of bare or ‘nude’ nails, this move made quite a statement.
It’s thought the one particular nail polish shade the Queen approves of is Essie’s ‘Ballet Slippers’, a soft barely-there pink which Meghan appeared to have worn on her wedding day to Prince Harry, as did her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, when she wed Prince William.
Clearly, though, the biggest night in British fashion was the perfect opportunity for the duchess to bend the rules, with a rebellious rich dark shade that looked fabulously festive.
Besides her mani, Meghan’s beauty look was minimal – her hair secured in a sleek low bun (no tendrils this time) with a slightly vamped-up version of her signature make-up style; soft smoky eyes and a glowing complexion.
