Matchy Matchy

Since we were little, we loved getting dressed like or our mom, or dad. Somehow it made us feel closer to them and we loved the idea of matching outfits. Matchy-matchy is certainly a phenomenon not only related to your parent or sibling (twin), but also to your friend, and now it is widely spread as a thing between couples. Matching your outfit with your partner is a real thing now, and for that we have to thank Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake and their appearance circa 2001 in an event in matching double denim outfits. There have undoubtedly been other couples who matched their outfits before Britney & Justin, but theirs is the moment that everyone still remembers.

Psychologists identify this phenomenon as something that comes from our subconscious and it is built after six months in a relationship, enough time to get to know your partner better and advance with your relationship. Matching clothes is related to the idea of unison as a couple. That is why some couples tend to match their style, not as a fashion choice, or trend, but as a need to look strong and united. For such reason we have seen many famous couples appearing in different events in matching style. Not only couples tend to match their clothes, but they also influence one another. The perfect example is Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, where the latter has had an important role on building a recognizable style for Kim, which was transformed from the typical random style into a more “cleaned” one. No wonder she is considered nowadays as a potential trendsetter.

For some, matching outfits is quite awful, because in their opinion, such thing should only happen with twins or sports teams. But, when you see a photo of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in matching elegant outfits, you take back everything you have said.
