Kim Kardashian took to Instagram this afternoon to share the first photo of her newborn son with Kanye West. In the image, a screenshot of her text conversation with Kanye, their precious baby boy lies in his crib wrapped in white blankets and swaddling clothes.
In the caption, Kim also announced their son’s name: Psalm West. A psalm, pronounced “salm” (like palm but with an S), is “a sacred song or poem used in worship,” according to Merriam-Webster dictionary. It can also specifically refer to a passage from scriptural text, like the Book of Psalms in the Christian Old Testament or Psalms in the Hebrew Bible.
The Wests have a penchant for choosing unexpected monikers—their first three children are named North, Saint, and Chicago (just “Chi” for short)—and their fourth child is no exception.
Coupled with a photo of little Psalm in Kim’s Instagram post was a flowery text from Kanye that read:
“Beautiful Mother’s Day
With the arrival of our fourth child
We are blessed beyond measure
We have everything we need”
Kim announced Psalm’s arrival last Friday, tweeting, “He’s here and he’s perfect!” She and Kanye welcomed their baby boy via surrogate, as they did for their fourth child Chicago, who was born last January. Kim previously opened up about suffering with placenta accreta, a condition where the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall, during previous pregnancies, which made it unsafe for her to get pregnant again naturally.
