For the past several months, the reality star-turned-trendsetter dove deep into designer archives for some of her recent high-fashion vintage looks, and it turns out, many were first modeled by Campbell herself.
Kardashian West has been giving designs straight off the ’90s runways her own fresh spin on the red carpet, recently stepping out in a glittering Versace chainmail dress, a sheer cheetah-print Azzedine Alaïa catsuit and more outfits that were previously spotted on Campbell.

While some accused Kardashian West, 38, of “copying” Campbell, most recognized that the star seems to be simply inspired by the fashion icon.
“Why can’t y’all just let Kim be inspired by Naomi. Y’all always thinking somebody copying somebody,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Kim k haters just love the reach! Where and when did she ever say she’s the original creator of anything? That woman just love to wear what she finds cute it’s not her fault her everything she does garners attention.”
Looking back at Kardashian West’s style history, the reality star first wore a design also spotted on Campbell to a 2018 Met Gala afterparty in May 2018. The look: a black bondage-style vintage Versace mini dress with a caged corset and buckle detailing at the neckline. Though the design initially debuted on the runway as part of Gianni Versace’s Fall 1992 collectionthis link opens in a new tab called Miss S&M, Campbell wore the dress while filming an episode of The Face in 2014.
The next time Kardashian West chose a look previously seen on Campbell was in December 2018, when she wore two Versace designs back-to-back.
The reality star attended the Versace pre-fall 2019 show wearing a sparkly silver chainmail Versace mini with low draped neckline originally from the label’s Fall/Winter 1997 collection, which Campbell previously wore in the ’90s.
Then the next day, Kardashian West recreated one of Campbell’s runway looks again, this time sporting a gunmetal, open back Atelier Versace gown with fringe detailing when she went to opening night of The Cher Show on Broadway.
The supermodel debuted the look down the catwalk at the Atelier Versace fall 1998 show and later wore it again at the 2015 Fragrance Foundation Awards, pictured above.
Weeks later, Kardashian West did it yet again when she wore a sheer, lace-like cheetah-print catsuit (with velvet accents that covered her chest and private parts) by Azzedine Alaïa when she returned to Paris Fashion Week. In addition to modeling the design for Alaïa’s Fall/Winter 1991-1992 show, Campbell rewore the one piece later in the ’90s, too.
Kardashian West’s most recent recreation of one of Campbell’s looks happened just days ago, when the star selected a slinky satin multicolored vintage Versace midi dress to wear to Chance the Rapper’s wedding.
Campbell modeled the piece, which features a thigh high slit and neon lace trim, in Versace’s Fall 1996 show. Days after Kardashian West brought the look back from the archives, Campbell shared a photo of herself modeling it on the runway on her Instagram Story on Monday.
