Kaia Gerber wants to help make getting dressed easier for you. The model has collaborated with affordable retailer Zara on a capsule collection of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories that embrace the idea of ‘new classics’.
“My starting point for this collaboration with Zara was to ask if it is possible to do a collection that has everything you would ever need in your closet,” Gerber explained of her inspiration for the designs. “If you were travelling and packed an entire collection, could it cover every possible need that you had? I think we’ve achieved that.”
The collection features more than 30 pieces, all of which are classic styles that have been given a modern twist, from slinky slip dresses to chunky knits and sleek tailoring. Much of it is inspired by the 1990s with muted tones (greys, whites, black and navy) taking centre stage, but there are also touches of Americana in the form of denim and cowboy boots.
When it came to creating this collection, Gerber says that she was inspired by her mother, Nineties’ supermodel Cindy Crawford, while she also thought about her friends, what inspires their style and what has inspired her’s over the years, wanting the collection to be as inclusive as possible.
“I wasn’t just thinking about myself when designing. I was thinking about my mom, my friends and everyone I see around me. My style is pulled from a lot of different places and I didn’t want to design something that excludes anyone.”
