Jennifer Lopez says that she wasn’t paid for her critically acclaimed film, Hustlers, because she isn’t motivated by money.
The actress not only starred in the movie, but she also produced it. Hustlers, which made $148.5 million (£113.8 million) worldwide, is expected to lead to an Oscars nod for Lopez who plays a stripper who drugs her banker clients to extricate more money from them.
“I didn’t get paid a whole bunch of money for Hustlers,” she told GQ. “I did it for free and produced it. Like Jenny from the Block — I do what I love.”
Lopez said that one of the key differences between her and her character, Ramona, is her approach to finances. For her, monetary gain is never the goal, while for her on-screen alter-ego, it’s a driving force.
“I’ve never been motivated by money,” she said. “I’ve always been motivated by — I want to be a great actress, a great singer, a great dancer. I want to make movies, I want to make music, and the money came along with that.”
