amie Lynn Spears is speaking out on the #FreeBritney movement and her older sister Britney Spears’s conservatorship for the first time.
In a series of video clips shared to her Instagram Stories, Jamie Lynn defended her choice to not speak out regarding Britney’s conservatorship in recent years, per People. The Zoey 101 actress said that she didn’t feel it was right to speak up when Britney was unable to do so for herself. Jamie Lynn’s comments come shortly after Britney appeared virtually in Los Angeles court for the first time to request that her conservatorship helmed by her father, Jamie Spears, be lifted, also saying that being under the conservatorship for the last 13 years has left her depressed and traumatized.
“The only reason I hadn’t [spoken out] before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do,” Jamie Lynn said in her statement. “But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.”
She continued, “Since the day I was born, I’ve only loved adored and supported my sister. I mean this is my freaking big sister, before any of this bullshit. I don’t care if she wants to run away to a rainforest and have zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has done so many times before, because I have nothing to gain or lose either way. This situation does not affect me either way, because I’m only her sister who’s only concerned about her happiness.”

The actress also seemed to distinguish her relationship with Britney as separate from the one her father and mother, Lynne Spears, share with the pop star. She added that she’s made a “conscious choice” to participate in Britney’s life as a sister only and not be involved in the conservatorship goings-on like her parents.
“I paid my freaking bills since I was 10 years old. Not that I owe the public anything, because my sister knows I love and support her. … I’m not my family. I’m my own person. And I’m speaking for myself,” Jamie Lynn said.
Jamie Lynn ended her message to the public with the sentiment that she’s “proud” of her sister for speaking her truth and that she’ll always support her.
“Maybe I didn’t support her the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform but I can assure you that I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I’ll support her long after,” she said. “I’m so proud of her for using her voice. I’m so proud of her for requesting new counsel like I told her many years ago—oh, not in a public platform but just in a personal conversation between two sisters.
“If ending the conservatorship and flying to Mars or whatever the hell else she wants to do to be happy, I support that 100 percent because I support my sister; I love my sister,” she added. “Always have, always will. As long as she’s happy. So let’s keep praying. That’s all.”
