How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Will Announce the Royal Baby

12/04/2019

The expected arrival of the royal baby is fast approaching. But when that day comes, don’t expect a high-profile announcement.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that they will keep the birth private.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” the palace said. “The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

This differs from Prince William and Kate Middleton, who shared the arrival of all three of their children in a public manner. For Prince Louis, for example, Kensington Palace tweeted that the Duchess was in labor and en route to the hospital. Then, they sent out another tweet announcing the birth itself. After mere hours, the Cambridge couple stepped outside St. Mary’s Hospital in London with newborn Louis for a photo opp.

Instead, it’s likely that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will post an announcement on their Instagram account, @SussexRoyal.

This news comes after reports that the Duchess of Sussex was uncomfortable with being photographed so soon after giving birth. While many royal watchers enjoyed watching the doors of the Lindo Wing to see a glimpse at the newest royal arrivals, some also said it put unfair pressure on the Windsor women to look perfect post-delivery. Middleton, for example, had to get a blowout, wear a designer dress, and walk in high heels after bringing a child into this world. With Prince George, some made the case that, as the heir to the English throne, his arrival was a public celebration. But with Harry and Markle’s child farther down the line of succession, is it really necessary for the whole world to know about the birth right away?

It’s said that Prince Harry and Markle hope to enjoy a more low-key life in Windsor. It seems this is just one of their first steps.
