Thank God we have the weekend all for ourselves just to enjoy reading an interesting book or watching a movie. Sometimes the best option is a movie when you would like to dedicate at least two hours from your time to an interesting film. With books the situation is completely different, because two hours are not enough when the story is taking your breath away and you can’t leave the book for a second.
Though the Oscars are over, The Rebel Heart is suggesting some interesting movies for you to watch this weekend, that were nominated this year in different categories.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Though it did not win the category for Best Picture, it certainly won our hearts. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri perfectly shows in the most amazing way possible what a mother is able to do just to make justice for the daughter she has lost. Her daughter is dead and the murderer is not found yet, so she rents three billboards to call attention for her daughter’s murder: “Raped while dying”, “And still no arrests”, “How come, Chief Willoughby?”
Phantom Thread
If you are obsessed with fashion, especially with the 50s, you will totally fall in love with this movie. Phantom Thread tells the story of a famous couturier, who meets a young waitress in the countryside and she immediately becomes his muse. This movie shows everything, from the particular character of the couturier and his desire to achieve perfectionism and destroy it when useless, to the love one has for his partner and the difficulties of the relationship when the partner does not fully understand the fragile personality of the beloved one. How does the story of the couturier and his muse ends? Well, it is up to you to find out.
The Florida Project
Before the name Walt Disney World, there was the name The Florida Project. This movie is not about cartoons or playgrounds, but it tells the story of a six year old who lives in a motel in Kissimmee, Florida with her troubled mother as they try to turn every day of their lives into an adventure. The movie is deeply touching and quite an inspiration as it shows how a family can cope with life while living in poverty, or barely having a few dollars to pay for the rent and some food. Though, this movie got one Oscar Nomination in the Category of Best Supporting Actor for Willem Dafoe, you should absolutely watch it.
Call Me by Your Name
Call Me by Your Name and I will Call You by Mine…
The movie is an admiration to the simplicity of life found in a breathtaking villa in North of Italy, where a family of three is enjoying their holidays. This movie makes you dream about nature, about laying on the grass and reading a book, about eating breakfast with a breathtaking view, about playing the piano in a vintage inspired villa and most of all about falling in love for the first time. Call Me by Your Name is a romance between a 17 year old student and an older man, who find it difficult to express their feelings, but at a certain time emotions can’t be hidden forever.
