Let’s cut to the chase. There’s no magic food or secret trick for slimming down—there’s so much to take into consideration. For one, genetic disposition is incredibly important. There’s only so much our bodies can do. Take my body, for example: I have no waist and no curves, and to be straightforward, there’s minimal I can do to change it, and I’m A-OK with that. We should all embrace and fuel our figures with healthy and smart choices. I share this because it’s important to first be super realistic when it comes to setting any goal.

So what foods will actually help you to slim down? Think about foods that are high in fiber. Did you know the average American only eats 15 grams of fiber a day, and we’re supposed to be eating closer to 30 grams? This means not only are we missing out on fiber, but we’re also neglecting other essential vitamins and minerals that come in fiber-packed foods. People also tend to shy away from foods that are high in fat, because high fat correlates to higher calories. But friendly reminder: we need calories to burn calories. Keep reading for the top five items I recommend adding to your diet if you’re looking to slenderize your already beautiful body.

Seeds: Chia, flax, and hemp seeds. These are all amazing healthy fats that are high in fiber and omega 3s. They can be used to add protein and fat to smoothies or even mix with your favorite muffin recipe.

Avocado: I know this one doesn’t surprise you, because it’s still living up to all the hype. It’s a source of fiber and healthy fats, and a big contributor to managing your weight.

Berries: They are covered in tiny seeds, which contain loads of fiber. And they will make you feel and look younger in the process.

Legumes: You can’t beat beans when it comes to eating fiber content. Cue the lean chili night at your place.

Fish: Eating fish, especially salmon or any wild-caught fish, is incredibly beneficial for trimming down. And even better, it helps to clear your head. Less brain fog, happier human.

With fiber being the focus here, it’s worth mentioning it can be connected to prebiotics (all the rage in the wellness world atm). So keep in mind, if you’re supplementing with prebiotic fiber, be sure to get in your probiotics as well, especially if you’re looking to slim down.
