This year at the 2019 SAG Awards the mood was undeniably glamorous, with stars embracing the maximalist sensibility of old Hollywood. Rather than revisit the days of Rita Hayworth though, show-goers kept things fresh with clean lines and embellishment aplenty. Feathers made a return with Danai Gurira’s swanlike Ralph and Russo gown, festooned with marabou feathers from the neckline to the waist. Glitzy gold sequins came in just the right doses on Margot Robbie’s sleek Chanel dress and Emma Stone’s asymmetrical Vuitton blouse. Accented with wide leg pants that were straight out of the ‘30s, Stone’s look was an unconventional style win. The evening also offered a preview of things to come: Gemma Chan’s ruffled Oscar de la Renta is part of the Fall 2019 collection and its unapologetic prettiness bodes well for the brand’s show at New York Fashion Week next month.
