The great and good of the fashion world came together yesterday for the Fashion Awards to recognise those who have excelled in their fields in 2017. It was the night that the movers and shakers in the fashion industry get together to celebrate and award talent. The event was a celebration of the achievements for the most creative talents of the industry, as Jonathan Anderson won big with twoawards as British Designer of the Year – Womenswear and Accessories Designer of the Year, and Raf Simons won the Award for Designer of the Year.
Besides the announcement of the winners in different categories, during the event some honorees were given to big personalities of the fashion industry like Donatella Versace who was honored with the award of the Fashion Icon and Christopher Bailey for Outstanding Contribution to British Fashion. Well, it is such a pity that Bailey will not be anymore the Chief Executive Officer of Burberry starting from April 2018, but we hope that we will see him as part of another big fashion house.
The event was held in partnership with Swarovski at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday night. Taking place at Royal Albert Hall, the event has been one of the biggest dates in the fashion calendar since its inception in 1986. The Fashion Awards are voted on by 2,000 members of the industry from 38 countries and serves as a fundraiser for the British Fashion Council.
Adwoa Aboah, the 25-year-old British star won the award for Model of the Year beating out fellow nominees Kaia Gerber, both Hadids, and Winnie Harlow. Last year Gigi Hadid beat sister Bella to the coveted Model of the Year title.
It’s certainly been a good year to be Kaia Gerber, Gigi and Bella Hadid, but it looks like when it comes down to the model having the best year, that honor goes to Adwoa Aboah.
Other notable wins at the 2017 Fashion Awards include Donatella Versace who received the Style Icon award, Raf Simons who was awarded Designer of the Year, and Off-White who won Urban Luxe Brand.
