It could have been a Saturday night in the Noughties. Sean “Diddy” Combs’s 50th birthday party saw the mogul – who dominated the post-millennium charts with collaborations with Usher, Nelly and Kelis, among others – celebrate the milestone with some of the 21st century’s most famous faces, including the cream of the early Noughties hip hop and R&B scene. Beyoncé and Jay-Z attended, as did Pharrell, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg. Mary J Blige and former Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie joined original reality TV queen Paris Hilton on the dancefloor, along with four of the most ubiquitous successors to the heiress’s small screen crown, the Kardashians.
Kim, who was joined by husband Kanye West, Khloe and their younger sister Kylie Jenner, posed for pictures with the guest of honour at his party on 14 December at his LA home, which was also attended by the girls’ mother Kris Jenner. In keeping with the throwback vibe, Kim chose a vintage Vivienne Westwood corset gown from the designer’s 1999 bridal collection for the occasion.
There to represent 2019’s hip hop scene were its current first couple, Cardi B and Offset, along with the Weeknd, Lizzo and Post Malone. But Diddy’s little black book extends well beyond the music industry. Chadwick Boseman, Taraji P Henson, Regina King and Kate Beckinsale (in Georges Chakra couture) brought some Hollywood sparkle, while supermodel Naomi Campbell, dressed in a sparkling pink asymmetric gown, flew the flag for the fashion world.
