Back To The 90s Hairstyles

25/05/2018

In recent years, fashion and beauty trends are giving us flashbacks from the `80s and especially the `90s. It has been quite some time now that the `90s style is spread like a virus and everyone owns a piece of cloth that reminds you of those days. When it comes to beauty, the hairstyle of the `90s was definitely the first trend to be embraced and we couldn’t be happier than to be given another chance to wear the hair accessories that we kept hidden for years, like headbands, the scrunchies and especially different designs of hair clips, the one with the butterfly shape being the most famous one.

The inspiration from the `90s was quite obvious in September during fashion week as the designers were presenting their Spring/Summer 2018 collections. Most hair stylists decided to give their version of the `90s hairstyles and it was a great way for us to be inspired again and recreate the famous `90s looks of Gwen Stefani, Drew Barrymore, Kirsten Dunst, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, etc.

So, take a look at the most famous hairstyle trends of the `90s that have made a big comeback and let me tell you that it is now time to recreate your favorite `90s look.

The scrunchies

When I saw the scrunchies at Mansur Gavriel’s fashion show back in September, it reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw’s line in Sex and the City: “No self-respecting New York City woman would be caught dead running around Manhattan in a scrunchie”.

Well, Carrie was wrong about this trend, because it was huge in the `90s and even Sarah Jessica Parker who played Carrie’s character in the famous TV series, was seen wearing a scrunchie back at the time.

Hair clips and hair pins

Hair clips were like a girl’s favorite accessory, and I am convinced that every girl used to own at least two hair clips back in the `90s. Somehow it felt like wearing hair clips were just enough as a hairstyle and you could go on with the rest of the day.

Even hair pins are back again and it is time you get inspired from the catwalks and wear them in different designs, as seen at Versace.

The half-bun

At first the half-bun was considered just a simple way to keep your hair in place while you were busy doing things like studying, working and even doing housework. But, at a certain point, the hairstyle you created while being indoors, became so famous that women and girls were seen opting for that style while going out. Back then it was more like a messy hair kept in a half-bun, while in September, during fashion week, models hair were kept in a half-bun, but without being messy.

Topknots

If there is one person that I am pretty sure everyone remembers wearing hair in a topknot, it is Gwen Stefani, who could totally rock every hairstyle idea from the `90s.

The headband

The headband was quite a hit in the `90s and you could get them in different sizes and shapes like the thin headband, the flower crown headband, the hair comb headband and the bandana headband.

The flipped bob

The flipped bob always reminds me of the Olsen twins. As a teenager, I used to watch all of their movies and loved their hairstyle: the flipped bob was quite famous.

Tendrils

I believe that tendrils will never be out of style, because every year I notice this hairstyle, but in different versions. The most famous one is the thin tendrils as seen on Julia Stiles at 10 Things I Hate About You. So, it would be a great idea to opt for thin tendrils again if you are about to go out.

Rubber bands

Rubber bands were a girl’s favorite choice of hairstyle back in the `90s, and the idea was also embraced by many famous artists. You could create a variety of styles with your hair that was perfectly kept in place with rubber bands. So, how about you opt for that hairstyle again?
